For Writers

Submissions

We are a small press and publish only a handful of titles per year, so we look for work that earns its place: scholarly in research, accessible in delivery, and rooted in the Golden Dawn and the wider Western Mystery Tradition.

Books

Pitch Us a Title

Send us a query letter via the enquiry form — choose "Author submission" as the enquiry type. Tell us what the book is, who it's for, and why you're the one to write it.

If we like the sound of your idea, we'll request a sample chapter or the full manuscript. Please query first rather than sending attachments cold.

The Journal

Write for The Light Extended

We accept articles directly related to the Order of the Golden Dawn and its teachings — if your topic is only loosely associated, pitch it before sending so we can ensure it's a good fit.

We look for scholarly, well-written work with insightful commentary; see previous volumes for the calibre we're after. We also publish original documents from the Order and its direct offshoots, though this is not the journal's primary focus. We do not publish authors' personal views on politics or other unrelated matters.

Send your final, edited, corrected, and proofread version. Once layout is complete, only minor changes and typo fixes will be made, so send us your best work.

Format Guidelines
  1. Font: size 12, single spaced, in Times New Roman, Georgia, Courier, Arial, Helvetica, or a similar common font (PC, Windows). If in doubt, use Times New Roman.
  2. Special fonts (for esoteric symbols, for example) require additional submission of the associated font file in .OTF or .TTF format (PC, Windows). You must possess the rights or licence to use the font, and/or provide the same to us. If in doubt, search for fonts that are free for commercial use.
  3. Notes as footnotes only, not endnotes, to ensure consistency throughout the text.
  4. Images in a zipped folder, named appropriately (for example "image1"), with their position in your document labelled as follows: [image1], [image2], and so on.
  5. Image quality: submit images in as high a quality as possible, ideally in their original format (for example, an Adobe Illustrator or Photoshop file), to ensure the highest print quality.
  6. File format: save and submit your document as .doc or .docx. Most word processors can save in this format (usually via File → Save As).
